Update June 9, 2021: The PittCoVax Vaccination Center at Nordenberg Hall is open today from 1 – 4:30 p.m. (Pfizer) and tomorrow, Thursday, June 10 from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Moderna). There are many available appointments on Thursday. Walk-ins welcome and open to the public. Clinic staff are also available and happy to answer questions.
Update June 2, 2021: Today is the follow-up clinic at Nordenberg Hall for the first group of 12-15 year-olds to get the Pfizer vaccine on the Pittsburgh campus. In 2 weeks, these young adults will be fully vaccinated! Learn how the kids’ clinic came together on Pittwire.
Update May 26, 2021: Throughout the summer, regular vaccine clinics will be held at the former AT&T storefront in Nordenberg Hall on Wednesdays and Thursdays, typically from 1 – 4:30 p.m. Clinic staff are also available during those hours to answer questions people may have about the vaccine.

Update April 26, 2021: There are two opportunities this week for students, faculty or staff to get their vaccine on the Pittsburgh campus. A limited number of first dose Moderna appointments are available Wednesday, April 28 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and Thursday, April 29 from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. If you still need a vaccine, please register at https://pi.tt/vras and use access code H2PVax21. You may also call the Pitt COVID-19 hotline for assistance with registering at 412-383-4372. (If you have previously registered, check your email to set up your appointment.) After registering, you will receive an email to schedule your appointment. Update April 19, 2021: Attention Pitt students! Check the announcements on my.pitt.edu for a link and code to register for a vaccine clinic Wednesday afternoon on the Pittsburgh campus. This clinic is serving Moderna first doses to individuals age 18 and older. It is open to all Pitt students and employees.

Update April 12, 2021: Starting April 13, all Pennsylvanians ages 16 and older will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Members of the Pitt community should get vaccinated as soon as possible. Below are resources to help you find a clinic near you:
Many local and regional pharmacies and providers are also offering vaccine appointments. You can search by zip code or county on VaccinatePA, a volunteer-run resource create by University of Pittsburgh students.
Update April 8, 2021: Pitt received a very limited quantity of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine from the Federal Pharmacy Program to provide to Pitt faculty, instructors and those staff who work directly with students as education workers under Pennsylvania’s Phase 1B. Pitt hosted a vaccine clinic today at the Petersen Events Center on the Pittsburgh Campus. Faculty, instructors and staff were randomly selected and invited to register for a vaccine appointment.
Update March 31, 2021: Pennsylvania has expanded eligibility to targeted frontline workers within Phase 1B. This includes law enforcement, firefighters, grocery store workers, and food and agriculture workers. Others in Phase 1B will be eligible starting April 5. Phase 1C will begin on April 12. On April 19, all Pennsylvanians are expected to be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. There are resources for those in Phase 1A who have not yet received the vaccine. Pitt did not receive any more doses of vaccine this week but we will continue to send updates when vaccine is made available to us for the Pitt community.
Update March 22, 2021: Allegheny County Health Department is providing first doses of the Moderna vaccine at the Petersen Events Center ONLY for individuals age 65 and older and for individuals age 50-64 in Phase 1A with a medical condition on March 22 and 23. Conditions that will qualify someone for vaccination at this time are cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, Down syndrome, heart conditions other than high blood pressure, sickle cell disease, smoking and Type 2 diabetes. People who are immunocompromised, obese or pregnant also will be eligible for the county’s vaccine. Free parking and shuttle services are available at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Parking Garage off of Bigelow Boulevard. Update March 16, 2021: The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) announced that it will be opening three additional COVID-19 vaccine points of dispensing (POD) before the end of March, including a temporary site at the Petersen Events Center on the Pittsburgh campus. The county will be managing invitations and registrations while the clinics will be staffed by Pitt people. Limited first dose appointments are available for individuals aged 65 and older ONLY for March 17 and 18 at the Peterson Events Center. Free parking and shuttle services are available at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Parking Garage off of Bigelow Boulevard. Update March 10, 2021: Reminder: Pitt community members who are fully vaccinated at this time are not permitted to have unmasked gatherings with other fully vaccinated people—or to visit with other unvaccinated people who are low-risk—anywhere on a Pitt campus. The University’s policies are not changing as a result of these interim CDC guidelines for fully vaccinated people. We will continue to monitor interim public health recommendations and update the Pitt community.
Update Mar. 9, 2021: Pitt now has an official vaccine provider agreement in hand from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, putting us one step closer to receiving our own vaccine supply. This does not mean we are guaranteed to receive vaccines any time soon, and the timeline is outside of our control. We are ready to begin vaccinating the Pitt community as soon as vaccines arrive. Please complete the Pitt Vaccine Survey to help us in this effort, if you have not already done so.
Update Mar. 3, 2021: A second-dose clinic will take place at the Petersen Events Center on Friday, March 5, 2021, from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., for 800 patient-facing clinical students in the Pittsburgh region. Invitations have been sent to eligible recipients. Allegheny County Health Department, who is supplying the vaccine, has specified that no first doses will be administered at this clinic.
Update Feb. 25, 2021: A lot goes into setting up the facilities, infrastructure and peoplepower to prepare to distribute vaccines on an uncertain timeline. Pitt Pharmacy has taken the lead on the Pitt vaccine effort and stands ready to spring into action once vaccine is available. As we anticipate our own supply, teams at Pitt have:
- Partnered with UPMC to begin vaccinating patient-facing healthcare faculty, staff and students.
- Established a mass vaccination clinic with Allegheny County at the Petersen Events Center.
- Organized volunteer rosters and trained vaccinators and other personnel from all six Schools of the Health Sciences to staff future clinics.
- Staffed and supported two Allegheny County mass-vaccination sites in the Hill District and Homewood for older residents.
- Purchased ultracold freezers to be able to store the Pfizer vaccine and other equipment.
- Continued to refine the IT infrastructure for registering and booking vaccine appointments.

Update Feb. 15, 2021: A reminder was sent today to all pitt.edu email addresses to complete the Pitt Vaccine Survey. If you have already completed the survey, you do not need to do it again. If you haven't—regardless of your current vaccine status or preferences —please take two minutes to complete the survey. It's especially important if you are patient-facing or have a medical condition that meets CDC criteria for prioritization. Pitt does not have vaccine yet, but stands ready to vaccinate our community as soon as supply allows.
Update Feb. 5, 2021: This week the federal government announced it will ramp up its supply of COVID-19 vaccines to states and begin additional distribution through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Pitt is ready to vaccinate members of our university community as soon as we have access to a supply of vaccines.
Update Feb. 1, 2021: The Pennsylvania Department of Health is working to ensure all enrolled vaccine providers have information publicly available for those in Phase 1A, who are currently eligible to be vaccinated. The Pennsylvania Vaccine Provider map on the Department of Health’s website is updated as more locations receive vaccine. Green pins indicate a facility has received vaccine and may have vaccine availability; red pins indicate a facility does not currently have vaccine available. Pitt will soon be enrolled as a vaccine provider.
Update Jan. 28, 2021: Every member of the Pitt community may be eligible to get vaccinated through Pitt, once vaccines become available to us. Please check your inboxes and complete the Pitt Vaccine survey—regardless of your vaccination status or preferences—as soon as possible. Also happening today: Allegheny County Health Department is partnering with Pitt to vaccinate area patient-facing healthcare personnel at the Petersen Events Center.

Update Jan. 27, 2021: Look for an email tomorrow from the COVID-19 Medical Response Office inviting you to fill out a survey. This is a critical step in gathering the information we need to prioritize people within our Pitt community for vaccination, following CDC guidelines, once Pitt receives vaccines from the state.
Update Jan. 26, 2021: We are well on our way to being an approved vaccine provider, but the process takes time. If you are afforded the opportunity to get vaccinated elsewhere in this interim period, please take advantage of it. No shot should go to waste.
Update Jan. 25, 2021: All Pitt faculty, staff and students will be sent a survey this week. This survey will help in prioritizing vaccinations for people within group 1A as soon as Pitt is approved by the state to be a vaccine provider. Please watch your Pitt email inboxes and respond to the survey as soon as possible. This will enable the logistics, equipment, staff and IT infrastructure to distribute vaccines transparently and effectively as soon as we are able.
Update Jan. 21, 2021: On Jan. 28 and 29, the Allegheny County Health Department will provide COVID-19 vaccinations to Pitt health care students in the state’s Group 1A designation at the University’s Petersen Events Center. Clinical students in the health sciences who are patient-facing have been invited to take part at this time, per the direction of the ACHD. In addition to this clinic, UPMC is also vaccinating a number of our patient-facing health care personnel. Pitt is awaiting approval from the state to be an independent vaccine provider.
Update Jan. 19, 2021: New guidance was released on Jan. 19, 2021 from the PA Department of Health expanding the categories of Pennsylvanians who can be vaccinated during the current, Phase 1A. The CMRO’s vaccine guidelines and implementation committee is reviewing that information in anticipation of when Pitt receives vaccine.
Update Jan 12, 2021: The University of Pittsburgh is actively engaged in securing COVID-19 vaccinations for our students, faculty and staff. The safety and well-being of the Pitt community remains a top priority.
To date, the Pennsylvania Department of Health has focused on supplying hospitals to distribute vaccines to health care workers in Pennsylvania. As we wait for distribution to broaden to other entities—including Pennsylvania universities—we are working to secure the approvals necessary to acquire and directly distribute vaccines to our students, faculty and staff.
We are also partnering with the Allegheny County Health Department and UPMC to vaccinate as many members of the Pitt community in priority group 1A—Health Sciences students, faculty and staff who are engaged in patient care—as quickly as possible.
We will continue to share information about vaccination distribution locally as well as the University’s efforts to acquire our own vaccine supply from the state.
